Pandemic Ka Lang, I am a Filipino

With just a blink, it was all gone.

I tried to look around, and see a glimpse of what I think, it should be. The sunny and colorful Philippines, the smiling faces of Filipinos. I tried to look around, for any signs, but all I could see was the four corners of my house.

March 13th, I remember that dreadful day. I remember the scared and worried faces of the Filipinos, scared of what’s happening and worried of the future. The once crowded tourist spots all over the country, in an instant, became crowd less. In an instant, smiles were covered with masks and we were all caged in our own houses, not able to go out. In an instant the familiar noise the country made, became silence, and nothing to hear but the cold winds.

Countless of challenges happened within the Philippines. Earthquake, typhoons, volcanic eruptions, name it, we have already experienced those. Countless cries for help, for grief, sorrow and hunger, name it all, we already faced those. But we are still able to stand right? We have faced many challenges, but we are able to face it all. For we are Filipinos, no pandemic can bring us down.

Youth may experience hardships, especially now that our bright future had been tinted with dark and windy skies, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use flashlights and blankets to warm us up. The future is unknown, we may still be facing this pandemic in 5 years time, but that won’t stop us continuing with our lives. Filipinos are known to be resilient, and no tragedy can ever bring us down.

In a blink it was all gone, and we face yet another struggle with this new normal way of living. But that doesn’t mean we stop here, we are Filipinos, and it giving up without a fight would never be an option for us
